What do you think about this situation?

This friend moved into a house where the rent takes up most of her income. So this guy she knows said he would move there and help her pay the rent. The problem is three years ago he lived at her house and after staying there for a month he just left leaving a huge electric bill. He also has a long record of arrests for forged checks and various other crimes and she has kids in the house.So of course I thought she was crazy for letting him move there again. However, he has been at her house for three months and has been paying the rent and because he pays the rent he now has the lease in his name. He works at a job that is 30 miles away and doesn't have a license so my friend drives him 60 miles to and from to work daily and then picks him up putting considerable wear and tear and miles on her car. He will sometimes pay a couple dollars here and there for gas. He's been on disability so he is waiting for his license reinstatement letter to arrive soon. I just don't think any of this sounds like a good situation. However. she keeps making him sound like a good guy often focusing on how bad this guys brothers are and that they won't even help this guy out. What does that have to do with anything. So am I just being overly critical about this situation? What do you think about the situation?
